DEPART
SYDNEY WITH INDIAN PACIFIC TRAIN FOR BROKEN HILL
|
 |
| Leave
Sydney in the early afternoon with the world famous Indian Pacific
Train and travel first through the magnificent Blue Mountains, then
through country New South Wales and the outback to Broken Hill. Your
accommodation tonight will be a First Class Cabin aboard the train. |
|
THU/SUN |
BROKEN
HILL – OUTBACK SHEEP STATION – WHITE CLIFFS
|
   |
| You
will be collected at the Broken Hill train station upon arrival of
the Indian Pacific. Leaving Broken Hill we travel north for 120 kilometres
to a working “outback” sheep station. This family owned
property is unique as it incorporates a privately imposed and now
registered natural sanctuary for fauna and flora as well as an abundance
of Aboriginal rock art. Your guide will show you some wonderful things,
including plenty of wildlife like big red kangaroos, emus, eagles
and much more. We then look for a nice place to have lunch, before
we continue our journey on remote station roads, through ever changing
countryside, to the remote White Cliffs Opal Field. Dinner and accommodation
will be in the famous underground Motel - a very unique experience! |
|
FRI/MON |
WHITE
CLIFFS OPAL FIELD – BROKEN HILL
|
   |
| We will
spend the morning inspecting this extraordinary outback settlement.
Learn how and why the community lives underground. Visit some underground
opal galleries and perhaps purchase one of the magnificent local opal
products. Before lunch we'll see the 'Old Field' where in search for
“colour” over 50,000 holes have been dug since the 1890's.
Return to Broken Hill for dinner and overnight. |
|
SAT/TUE |
BROKEN
HILL – KINCHEGA NATIONAL PARK – MENINDEE |
   |
| Leaving
Broken Hill behind we travel to the Kinchega National Park with its
spectacular Menindee Lakes. The surface area of these lakes is seven
times greater than that of Sydney Harbour! Taking the ‘scenic
drive’, we follow the mighty Darling river where native bird
and animal life abound among the enormous river red gums. After lunch
we visit the small outback township of Menindee, the last stop for
Burke and Wills (early explorers) on their fateful journey into the
unknown. We stay on in Menindee tonight to enjoy the peace and serenity
of the outback. |

| SUN/WED |
MENINDEE
– MUNGO NATIONAL PARK – MILDURA - MELBOURNE |
  |
| After
a wholesome breakfast we make our way to the Mungo National Park via
Pooncarie, another old river port town along the Darling River. Continuing
our journey toward the World Heritage Area of the ancient Willandra
Lakes, we arrive at Mungo National Park with its amazing "Walls
of China" and spectacular wildlife. This almost lunar like landscape
will inspire the photographer and enchant the nature lover. In the
afternoon we drive to Mildura where we will transfer you to the airport
for afternoon REX Airlines flight to Melbourne. (Departure details
will be advised at time of booking) |
